Very absinthe-centric, this one is. Dan scored three types of absinthe that he’d never tried before and uncorked and sampled them during the recording. Jerry also had scored a bottle the day before of one new to him, and he and their mutual friend Pat gave their impressions.

Not all the absinthes sampled were hits.  One in fact was so unlike absinthe that it boggled Dan’s mind that it had the word on the label.

Also included is a kind of surprise. Dan was forced to — suddenly — relocate from the L.A. area to Arizona. Why? Well, we explain in the podcast.

We tried something different this time, and it worked well enough we may keep doing it. Right as we began recording we announced on Facebook and Twitter that we were, in fact, recording at that very moment, and invited people to send tweets and FB comments to include in the show.

Several people did. How awesome is that?

So, what’s with the girl with the hookah? Dan talks about a hookah waitress in this episode, and this is the closest thing I could find to a hookah waitress to use for our “honorary absinthe fairy.” I’d give the artist credit but I can’t find who did it, and the place where I snagged the art only showed it in Google, but when I got to the actual site, it wasn’t there. So as far as I (Jerry) know, it’s abandoned art.

Lots of absinthe talk on this episode. It’s like we’re becoming an actual, real “absinthe podcast,” thought we stopped doing that “absinthe news” segment with the music because of feedback telling us it was actually kind of annoying. It was only a matter of time…

Jerry ordered a TARDIS from the BBC and didn’t expect it to be a real one. They climb into it and go back to visit a time before Dan got married, before Jerry moved to Chicago — and before Jerry had even tried absinthe, but wanted to. You get to hear Dan and Jerry at the very moment that the idea for this podcast sparked to life.

Jerry tries a new absinthe mixer… listen to find out if it’s a new hit, or a disaster.

Also, the truth comes out about the so-called “ban-lifting” of absinthe in France.

As those of you who follow us on Facebook know, Jerry was awfully sick this week. Chicken-cooking safety rules are for real, folks. Jerry found out the hard way. It’s just a good thing that he didn’t end up with Salmonella.

Dan has the inside track on relatively inexpensive (‘relatively’ is the operative word here) pre-ban absinthe from the early 1900′s. It’s basically $50 a drink, but if you want to try the original stuff he can get you the info and perhaps hook you up with some.

You can tell Dan is married … he wanted to talk about the reality show, The Bachelorette, and some poor guy who got so drunk they had to send him home. Tim McCormack, you should have been drinking absinthe instead. We’re just saying.

Dan wants one of these. Got one to spare?

Dan is looking for an antique dental phantom. Seriously. Let him know if you have one in your living room you want to give away.

Archie McPhee, we have a new product idea for you: Archie McFetus prenatal vitamins. They’d be gummy vitamins in the shapes of little fetuses.

The Old Absinthe House in New Orleans has filed for bankruptcy. Dan wants to buy it just to get a hold of this marble absinthe fountain.

In fact (and in all seriousness) we think Ted Breaux should buy the place and make it the epicenter of the absinthe world. He could do it. We have faith in him, even if we’re not particularly fond of Lucid.

We posted a poll, and the results were tabulated, and it was 5 to 1 in favor of us keeping the episodes under an hour. And so under an hour this one is! Huzzah!

He says it’s really, REALLY good, and Jerry is hoping he can find some in the duty free port on the way home because his flight back is direct.

Send lawyers, guns, and absinthe … Dan and I may have gotten ourselves into trouble with this one.

Now, it would be completely ironic if we did need lawyers because of this episode, being that we spent quite a few minutes insulting them. Then again we weren’t really insulting them, we were just saying that teachers should make as much as they do, being that we believe teachers have the most important job. Most with a capital M. We entrust our children to them. Basically, we trust the future to them. Shouldn’t we be paying these teachers top dollar?

Besides getting ourselves into trouble, Dan schools Jerry on the dangers of becoming a collector of absinthe paraphernalia. It starts with bottles. Call that phase one (which is where Jerry is at the moment) (yes, I’m writing about myself in third person) but that’s just the beginning. Next comes spoons. Then fountains. Then pitchers. Then plates.

Then you’re broke and you can’t afford absinthe anymore.

This somehow drifted off to become a discussion of a new Disney ride based on Dante’s Inferno (featuring cute, fluffy demons) and then, perhaps unwisely, we start heavily bashing political correctness.

Political Correctness needs to be ditched in favor of Political Kindness. So on that note, we hereby declare March 16th as Political Kindness Day.

Finding treasure in the attic! Jerry discusses eBay gold he’s found in the past, and what may still be out in Dan’s garage. Also, there’s a myriad ways to make money without an actual job, and we discuss just a few of them.

Absinthe related: the best absinthe is not the most expensive absinthe. Dan and Jerry talk about the recent post on the Wormwood Society website featuring a comprehensive cost/quality comparison of absinthe.

Also, a discussion about creativity and the writing process somehow goes on a wild and weird tangent about the secrets of attracting the opposite sex even if you’re not movie star handsome (or gorgeous). This revolves around “The Tao of Steve” and how we can all be Steve … because “Steve” is a state of mind.
